Canada’s Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA)

Bill C-11, also known as the Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020, would repeal parts of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and replace them with a new legislative regime governing the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information for commercial activity in Canada.

CPPA states that de-identified information – personal information with direct identifiers removed – must be protected, and cannot be used without the individual’s consent except in certain circumstances.
